RUGBY

Much of my childhood was spent on the touchline. My father and my brothers played and, before he retired, my father specialised in rugby and sailing photography.
His beautiful pictures of players on the field inspired me.

So it was a natural progression when my sons signed up to play for clubs and schools nearly two decades ago that I would start photographing the action. Sadly, the lively Sunday mornings sprinting up and down the side of the pitch stopped abruptly when they left for university and explored other sports and activities.

Enter my niece, Holly, who showed first an interest and then a talent. Her enthusiasm was enough to drag me back into perishingly cold Sundays, filthy fields and breath-freezing air – all whilst handling a metal-cold camera, a heavy lens and suspect clubhouse coffee.

I am in awe of the women’s game – tenacity, speed, spark, drive and sharp communication – everything you need for a good photograph and so I decided to make womens’ rugby a focus point alongside the rest of my business.

I am now lucky enough to be affiliated to Surrey RFU and I attend their games as much as possible. I hope that my photographs go some way to raising the profile of the women’s game in a traditionally male field.

If you have a women’s rugby game within an hours drive of Twickenham and need a photographer then drop me an email and start the discussion.
